A guide to Madinah

The calmer half of the journey — the central area, the historic sites, and how to spend your days.

The central area

Madinah's central area is flat, well lit and pedestrian-friendly, which makes it considerably easier to walk than Makkah. Hotels ring the mosque, and even properties a few hundred metres out involve a straightforward walk.

The great courtyard umbrellas open through the day and make the walk comfortable even in strong sun.

Beyond the mosque

Masjid Quba, Masjid al-Qiblatayn and Mount Uhud are the sites most guests visit. All are a short drive out, and a half-day Ziyarat covers them comfortably.

The date market is worth an hour, and is where most guests buy gifts to take home.

Pacing your stay

Guests consistently tell us they wish they had allowed more time in Madinah. If your schedule allows an extra night anywhere, this is usually where it is best spent.
